Get set for a magical rainbow ride through biblical Egypt. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is an exhilarating show, full of comedy, dance, eye-dazzling production numbers, and some of the most hummable tunes to ever come out of Broadway. Joseph opens Thursday, February 9 and runs through Sunday, February 12, 2006 at the Stillwater Community Center’s Houston Theatre.
Combining the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber with the humor and poetry of lyricist Tim Rice, this irresistible musical follows the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel’s favorite son. Joseph’s story is told through song by leading lady and narrator Alyson Friesen, an OSU student, who debuted with the Community Center’s annual community theatre project two years ago in the production of Sweeney Todd.
Headlining the musical is OSU student Colte Julian in the title role. Colte recently played the role of Prince in Oklahoma State University’s production of Into The Woods.
"He plays a believable and expressive Joseph," says director Daniel Yates." When he stepped out to audition, the casting crew knew immediately he was perfect for the role of Joseph."
Gloria Short, Community Center program coordinator and music director added, "This production showcases the amazing talents of our entire cast through colorful musical stylings, blending rock n’ roll, rhythm and blues and country."
The 35 member cast includes local actors and musicians who volunteer solely for their love of performing arts and community involvement. Included in this cast are vocal students of Stillwater Honor Choir. Joseph is sponsored financially in part by Oklahoma Arts Council, National Endowment of the Arts, Stillwater Arts and Humanities Council, and First Christian Church of Stillwater.
